Mjølkevegen: North Route Highlights

Perfect for those in average shape and who already possess some cycling experience.

Mjølkevegen- the Milky Way- has been voted one of the most attractive cycling routes in Norway. The entire official route is between Vinstra and Gol and stretches a total of 250 km. For our route we have focused on a 7-day trip on a 200 km long route from Lemonsjø to Beitostølen. This route is perfect for those in average shape and who already posses some cycling experience. This route will give you everything the Valdres region has to offer. It takes you through beautiful mountain and traditional farming landscapes, such as the Jotunheimvegen in the East and Stølsvidda in the West, where you will get acquainted with many of our four legged friends such as sheep, cows and goats. You should also keep an eye out for reindeer grazing in some wilder areas.

You will cycle along enchanting rivers and mountain lakes, mainly on gravel roads, with occasional short legs along the main roads. The route covers some of the best highlights in the region, including the boat trip across Bygdin with M/B Bitihorn. The average time per leg is set to 4-5 hours, but some legs are shorter so you will also have time for some hiking opportunities along the way; Synshorn and Bitihorn are popular hikes and on clear days you can see far into the Fjellheim (mountain landscape). You will spend the last night in Beitostølen, a lively and charming mountain village. Here you can get a taste of Norwegian village life and go out to bars, restaurants or you might even catch a nice concert.
