About Nærøyfjorden World Heritage Park
Our fjord landscape with active geological processes, beautiful fjord to mountain nature with glaciers, forests, waterfalls and free-flowing rivers, and cultural landscapes that give the natural landscape perspective, are important values in the world heritage context. This is essentially why West Norwegian Fjords were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2005.
The Nærøyfjord area, the southern part of the two areas that make up the West Norwegian Fjords, is the basis and core part of the regional park Nærøyfjord World Heritage Park. Being given a world heritage status comes with a responsibility and an obligation to ensure that the unique values that exist in the area are preserved. The park administration focus our resources on well thought out collaborative projects that create a positive effect for its partners and others. We believe that our site is a good place to visit because it is a good place to live!
The area is situated in the inner part of Sognefjorden. You can travel here by car, bus, boat, train (from both Oslo and Bergen) and airports in Bergen and Sogndal.
